Rodney Dale Loftis Sr., 61, of Charleston went home to be with the Lord May 9, 2010, at CAMC Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Rodney was born February 20, 1949, and was the son of the late Chester Eary and Betty Loftis Buscher. He was also preceded in death by maternal grandmother, Bertha Fields Miller; and stepfather, Bud Buscher.
Rodney and Shonette started Rodney Loftis & Son Contracting from scratch and built it up to a multi-million dollar company. They worked side-by-side for over 35 years. They later incorporated with their children to keep the tradition of quality work and outstanding service they have provided over the years. His children will continue with the business.
He was an honorary member of the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department and Sissonville Volunteer Fire Department. He dedicated time and resources to both of these organizations. He was a member of the Kanawha County Democratic Committee for the past 12 years and, in 2008 he was named Kanawha County Democrat of the Year. At the time of his death, he was financial chairman of the Kanawha County Democratic Executive Committee.
He was a staple in the community during times of need, where he freely gave his time and resources for people in need and disasters that occurred. Rodney, his family and Rodney Loftis & Son Contracting have, over the years, given to many charitable organizations in need.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Shonette Loftis; son, Rodney Loftis II and his girlfriend, Marissa Tankersley; daughter, Sara Bailey and husband, Erik; grandchildren, Sierra Loftis, Erik Bailey and Jacob White; brothers, Robert Loftis and wife, Wendy, Greg Loftis and wife, Ruthie, Ben Loftis and wife, Regina, and Gary Loftis; sisters, Judith Mullen, Patricia Means and husband, D.K., and Sandy Coon and husband, Ken; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Tom Johnson and Kermit Tyree; as well as many other friends.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with Pastor Robert Legg and Pastor Michael Harper officiating. Burial will be in the Loftis family cemetery, Charleston.
Visitation with the family will be from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
