John was the son of Jethro Arline and Elizabeth Mason Arline.

John married Mattie Taylor on Feb 23, 1871 who is buried next to him immediately to his left.

There is some confusion concerning the full name of John Arline. His marker clearly indicates that his middle name is "Jethro" after his father while other sources indicate that his middle name is "Mason" after his mother. Most sources state that John "Mason" Arline was married to Mattie Taylor but Mattie Taylor lies next to John "Jethro" Arline. Additionally, all sources give his year of death as 1913 however his marker clearly indicates 1912 with the year of birth correctly indicating 1847. He did have a son named John "Jethro" Arline however available information indictes that he is probably buried in Fulton County, GA coincidentally in a cemetery named "Westview".

Since his headstone is significantly newer than one which would have been placed in 1913, it is presumed that the new stone was placed by a well meaning but uninformed relative or concerned citizen about the original markings which were becomming obscured with time.

John and Mattie had the following children:
Elizabeth Jane ARLINE Feb 4, 1872 - ?. She married Wallace Norton Cole on Dec 6, 1886.
Mamie Florence ARLINE May 3, 1874 - ?. She married J.O.A. Mason.
Lillie George Arline (1877 - 1973).
John Jethro Arline (1879 - 1952).
Wallace Taylor ARLINE Jul 1889 - 1892 (possibly the third grave in the Arline plot).

John had the following brothers and sisters:
Sarah Ann ARLINE b. 28 Aug 1828 in Laurens Co. GA - Died Oct 8, 1860. She married Ephriam Hightower.
Mary ARLINE b. 15 Sep 1830 in Laurens Co., GA - Died ?. She married Joanus Hightower.
Elizabeth F ARLINE b. 1 May 1832 in Laurens Co., GA - Died ?. She married John P. Maddox in Laurens on Sep 12, 1851.
Nancy Jane ARLINE (1834 - 1900).
James Pullen ARLINE b. 13 Jun 1836 in Laurens Co., GA Died Sep 28, 1843 in Laurens Co GA.
Thomas Jefferson ARLINE Sr. b. 3 Aug 1838 in Oconee, Washington, GA Died 23 May 1864 in Charleston, South Carolina.
Martha ARLINE (1840 - ?).
Henry Wood ARLINE b. 22 Mar 1843 in Oconee, Washington, GA - Died 20 Sep 1849.
Missouri Ann F ARLINE b. 22 Jan 1852 in Laurens Co., GA - Died 13 Sep 1852.

John M. Arline served as a witness on the CSA pension application of Thomas Davis of Coffee county, GA saying they were in the same unit in the war. They both listed Company B of the 7th Battalion Fla. regiment. They said they enlisted in Madison Florida in 1864 and served the rest of the war.

John has his own pension application under Johnson County. He gives May 1847 and his DOB in Laurens County. He says he enlisted in 1864 in Madison Florida with the Mannerley Battalion of the Florida Cav. Within that paperwork is a page from Martha J. Taylor who says she married him 23 Feb 1871 in Thomas County and he died on 23 Nov. 1914 in Johnson county. She requested his last $60 pension. NOTE that he gives middle initial as M. on both applications.
