╚══`.¸.Grace and she is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She lived half of her life in Zelianople, PA. The last half she lived in Homosassa Springs, Florida. She was a neighbor of my mother's. I was about fifteen when I met her and she more or less adopted me as a friend then, and later as a "granddaughter". Ever since I knew her, she spent most holidays visiting us and would take trips up to where I lived, with my mom, so she wouldn't have to drive alone. One such trip was when I had given birth to my son. She was one of the first people to hold my baby. She and my parents lived on the Homosassa River and enjoyed fishing off her dock or going out in the boat with her friend JB, after becoming a widow. She was one very strong woman and until just a few years ago, she lived alone and took care of all of her affairs. One thing, however, was that she was afraid of thunder storms. She would come to my parents house just about every time it stormed, and living in Florida, that was a lot. Even at two in the morning she would run out in the storm to come knock on my parents' door. It really gave us a chance to get to know her. Other than that, I never saw her afraid of anything and she was always helping and encouraging others. She has one daughter, Patty, and four grandsons as well as great grandchildren, but all of them lived in Pennsylvania, and so, in a sense, she was our family. Before her husband Kenneth passed away, they owned and maintained a motel. They later bought a restaurant on Cardinal Lane in Homosassa Springs and ran that until about 1970, when her husband died. She sold her place on the water in 1999 (which she sorely missed till the day she died) and moved to Beverly Hills. She was blessed to meet a few great friends there, who would continue their friendship until the very end of her life. My mom also moved, after she became a widow, to an assisted living place in Inverness, Florida, where Grace decided also to move. A few years later, she fell and broke her hip and shoulder, and had to relocate to Woodlawn Nursing Home.
I tried to visit her every time I went South to see my family. Some of our most precious times were in the nursing home having parties and decorating her Christmas tree in her room. I was there this week when she got sick and will forever miss this wonderful lady… I tried to bless her but mostly she blessed me.
