Leon Blakley, age 57, of Connersville, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, June 20, 2006 at I.U. Med Center in Indianapolis, Indiana. He had been in failing health for the past several months.
Leon was born in Connersville, Indiana March 26, 1949 a son of Maxine Powell Hensley. He was raised by his mother and step father, Curtis O. Hensley.
Leon was a graduate of the class of 1967 at Short High School in Liberty, Indiana, and, upon graduation he began working at Philco in Connersville, Indiana.
In 1968 Leon entered the United States Navy where he received a National Defense Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal.
Upon returning to Connersville after Vietnam, he returned to his job at Philco Ford and it's predecessors retiring from Visteon in December 2005 after 37 years of service.
Leon is survived by his stepfather; a daughter, Mrs. Amy (Tim) Woollard of Hagerstown, Indiana; a son, Jody Blakley, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a granddaughter, Blake Woollard, of Hagerstown, Indiana; three brothers, Omer K. (Patsy) Blakley of Liberty, Indiana; Larry E. Blakley of Dayton, Ohio; and, Ronald M. (Melodee) Blakley of Oxford, Ohio; two half brothers, Randy (Jana) Hensley of Liberty, Indiana and Marty (Kim) Hensley of Brownsville, Indiana; a half sister, Penny D. Hensley of Versailles, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Katrina (Jeff) Toler; two stepsons, Jay (Jo) Wiwi and Larry (Penny) Wiwi; five step grandchildren, Courtney Rosenberger and Dakota Toler of Connersville, Shay and Amber Wiwi of Shelbyville, Indiana, and, Lawrence J. Wiwi of Greensburg, Indiana; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Leon is preceded in death by his mother.
Funeral services will be held at Urban Winkler Funeral Home, Connersville, Indiana on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 1 p.m. with the eulogy being given by his friends. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery, Connersville with military graveside services being conducted by the Fayette County Council Color Guard. Friends and family may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2006.
