Passed away Friday, March 24, 2006, at his residence in Hickory Corners. He was born January 13,1922 in San Antonio, Texas, to the late Francis and Etta (Cooper) Atkinson. He graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and then attended Indiana University until he was called up to serve his country. He proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant, during WWII, in the Army Signal Corp, Europe. Bud married his lovely bride, Marjorie Elizabeth Eager of Port Washington, NY, on February 24, 1946. They were married 51 years. Together, they resided at the family country home near Gull Lake. Marjorie preceded him in death in February of 1997. Bud was a loving, devoted husband, father and grandfather and very much a gentleman as well as friend. He was first employed as a glassblower at Mulholland Sign Company and then spent nearly 25 years as an electrician for IBEW #131. Bud enjoyed being with his family and friends, first and foremost but also enjoyed outdoor activities such as trout fishing, hunting, golf and tennis and was known as a conservationist. His other enjoyments included painting as well as taking his family trips to Barothy Lodge. Surviving children are; Marcia (Fenimore) Johnson of Paw Paw, Donald (Cherie) Atkinson of Grandville, Suzanne (Russ) Katje of Richland, and Barbara (Patty Davis) Atkinson of Benton Harbor; grandchildren, Jeff (Kandi) Getman, Scott (Cindy) Getman, Brian and Meghan Atkinson, Scott and Brent (Therese Wright) Murphy, and Trevor Ritsema; great grandchildren, Jake and Riley Getman, Cassie Helmus; sister-in-law, Rita Atkinson; nephew, Mike Atkinson and niece, Anne Wolfis and family; cousin, Lori (Warren) Blanchard; and aunt, Mary Kostange. Preceding Bud in death was his brother, Donald Atkinson. A memorial service will take place, 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2006 at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 9800 E. BC Ave., Richland, Father Knute Jacobson, officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Memorial Chapel, 622 S.
