Reverend William F. Rick served as the pastor of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Williamsport, Pennsylvania, from August 1893 until his death. He also served as the Chaplain of the 12th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, from March 14, 1898 until his death.
He contracted typhoid fever at Camp Alger, Virginia during his military service and died in Williamsport.
He was beloved by his church, his comrades and the citizens of Williamsport. It was reported that over 4,000 people attended his viewing and hundreds accompanied his body to Wildwood.
United Spanish-American War Veterans, Camp 47 was organized in Williamsport and named after Chaplain Rick. A small organization burial plot is located in Wildwood Cemetery.
