NORFOLK — A memorial service for Alan Strong, 60, of Norfolk will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Home for Funerals. His body was donated to medical science at the University of South Dakota.
He passed away on Aug. 22, 2010, at Faith Regional Health Services after a two-year battle with cancer.
Alan was born in O'Neill on April 22, 1950, to Lester and Violet (Alderson) Strong. He moved with his family to Norfolk in 1954. He attended Norfolk Public Schools, graduating in 1968. He was employed at Dale Electronics and later at Nucor Steel, where he retired after over 20 years of employment.
His true passion was buying, selling and restoring antiques, which he did full time after his retirement from Nucor.
He married Connie Hauf at the United Methodist Church on Dec. 8, 1973. They later divorced.
He is survived by three daughters, Cammi and Amber Strong of Lincoln and Alesia (Lynn) Barnhart of Ashland; two granddaughters, Phalin Strong and Angel Strong of Lincoln; his parents, Lester and Violet Strong of Norfolk; two brothers, Brad (Lori) and Steve (Jody) of Norfolk; five sisters, Carolyn Small of Sioux City, Kathryn Strong (Harry Mason) of Alameda, Calif., Cindy (Stan) Christensen of Norfolk, Joy (Steve) Hobbs of Slana, Alaska, Cheryl Strong of San Mateo, Calif.; nine nieces, two nephews and 15 great-nieces and nephews.
