Clyde B. Acord, age 85, lifelong resident of New Haven, passed away Monday, February 11, 2008, at his home.
Clyde was born in New Haven on July 24, 1922, to the late Raymond and Muriel (Johnson) Acord. On March 26, 1946, he was married to Flossie (Pettyjohn), who preceded him in death in 1999. Clyde was an Army veteran, serving his country proudly in World War II. He served in North Africa, Italy and Anzio and was a combat engineer with five battle stars and the World War II Victory Medal.
He retired in 1980 and pursued his passion of gardening. He was well known throughout the community for his wonderful vegetables. He loved to visit with his friends, fish and always had a smile for you.
Clyde is survived by a son, Charles Acord and Carolyn Murray of Eldorado; two daughters, Laveda and Richard Pate of Newburgh, Ind. and Sandra and Donnie Ellison of Norris City; a sister, Sophia Ives of Alton; companion, Margaret Browning of New Haven; a sister-in-law, Irene Carney of New Haven; one grandchild; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation is after 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008 at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in New Haven. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the funeral home with the Rev. Bobby Murray officiating and burial in the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven.
