At the time of his passing, Neil was a custodian at City Hall and worked during my second shift hours. He was so well liked by everyone at City Hall, but we at the police department on the ground floor were especially fond of him because we were, of course, still open after 5:00 p.m, when the other City Hall workers went home. Now that he is gone, my mind is flooded with memories. He'd stop by my desk and say, "OK kiddo, time for a break." I can still hear his voice, and I remember all the stories he told me about his family on those breaks. His family meant the world to him. Neil was not a tall man, and I would alway tease him saying, "What does a little guy like you need with a big truck like that?" And he'd laugh that laugh of his. Seeing the crash scene photos, and "that truck" smashed like an accordian is heartbreaking. No one knows yet how and why it happened. I am only one, but there are so very many that can say on this day, "I'm glad I knew him, he was a good friend." ~Lori~
