Jerry (K9JHK), is now known in the ham radio world as a "silent key."

He was the recipient of a heart transplant, which extended his life by years, but with great difficulty.

Gerald G. Klabunde, 63, died at his home in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on Thursday evening, April 27, 2006, surrounded by family. He had endured many years of health-related issues.

Jerry was born October 3, 1942 in Sheboygan to George and Lila (Hildebrandt) Klabunde. He was a graduate of Sheboygan South High School, Class of 1961. He furthered his education at Milwaukee School of Engineering with an associate degree in Electrical Engineering.

He was formerly married to Carol Schwarz.

For a number of years Jerry was employed by the United States Information Agency-Voice of America and Radio Free Europe. He also worked at numerous radio stations, some of which were WBEN in Buffalo, NY and KVIL in Dallas, TX. In 1981 he started his own advertising agency, Media Insights in Plano, TX which he operated until 1991 when he moved back to Sheboygan.

As a child Jerry became involved in amateur radio, a hobby for which he held a passion for fifty years. He was well known in the amateur radio circle around the world. He also enjoyed watching movies with his family and friends.

On July 7, 2000 Jerry married Sharon (Peters) Pfeifer. In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by two daughters, Sherry (Brian) Miller of Sheboygan and Kimberly (Robert) Burrows and their two children, Kaley and Cody Burrows of Osceola, WI; three step-sons, Paul (Debbie) Pfeifer and their son Justin Blackburn of Sheboygan, Mark (Cindy) Pfeifer of Elk Grove Village, IL, and Luke Pfeifer (close friend Monica Hetzel) of Delevan, WI; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
