At around 2 in the morning on September 3rd, 1965, 18 year old Norman Muscarello was hitchhiking home when he saw a UFO near Exeter, New Hampshire. He flagged down a passing car and had the driver take him to the Exeter police station. A short time later, Muscarello returned to the scene with Exeter Police Officer Eugene Bertrand, Jr. Earlier in the evening, Officer Bertrand had dealt with a motorist who claimed that a UFO had followed her car for several miles. At first, they saw nothing unusual, then quite suddenly, the UFO rose into the air from behind the nearby woods. A second Exeter police officer joined Muscarello and Bertrand, and the three men observed the object for several more minutes before it flew away.
To this day, the Exeter sighting remains as one of the best publicized and best documented UFO sightings of the modern era. Author John G. Fuller documented the events of the sighting in his book "Incident at Exeter."
