Writer, Director, Producer. MacDougall started his entertainment career as an usher at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, then worked as a staff writer at NBC Radio. His first film script was "Operation, Burma!"(1945), and for his second script, "Mildred Pierce" (1945), starring Joan Crawford and directed by Michael Curtiz, MacDougall was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. MacDougall wrote or contributed to the scripts for "Possessed"(1947), "The Unsuspected" (1947), "June Bride" (1948), "The Hasty Heart"(1949), "The Breaking Point" (1950), "Mr. Belvedere Rings the Bell" (1951), "The Naked Jungle" (1954), "We're No Angels" (1955), "Queen Bee" (1955), "Man on Fire" (1957), "The World, the Flesh and the Devil" (1959) and "Cleopatra"(1963). MacDougall also directed "Queen Bee," "Man on Fire" and "The World, the Flesh and the Devil," as well as "The Subterraneans"(1960), "Go Naked in the World" (1961) and "The Cockeyed Cowboys of Calico County" (1970), which starred his wife, Nanette Fabray. MacDougall and Fabray were married from 1957 until his death in 1973 at the age of 58. MacDougall was president of the Writers Guild of America, West, from 1971 to 1973, and was the uncle-in-law of actress Shelley Fabares. (bio by: Dear Jayne)
