1858 --Morace Adams-- 1937
Morace Adams, oldest child of John Quincy and Julia Adams, was born at Florence, Stephenson co., Illinois, Nov. 20, 1858, and died July 12, 1937, at Sutherland, aged 78 years, 7 months and 22 days.
His early boyhood was spent at Florence, where he was a member of the Evangelical church. In 1880 he moved to Grundy Center, Iowa, where he engaged in farming. On Oct. 4, 1883, he was married to Minnie Heine of Florence, who passed away May 3, 1887. To this union one daughter, Mabel, was born.
In 1893 he moved to Sutherland and engaged in creamery work for a few years. On Nov. 5, 1895, he was married to Cora E. Stockwell, who preceded him in death Feb. 8, 1912. To this union four children were born: Beryl, Gladys, Erma, and Vernon who died in infancy.
For the last 35 years he was employed in lumber yards here, with the exception of two years that he lived in Draper, S. Dak.
January 1st of this year he suffered a heart attack which was followed by other complications. He seemed to rally for a time, but gradually grew weaker until July 11th, when he suffered another heart attack from which he did not rally. Death came peacefully at 1 o'clock, Monday, July 12th.
He was a kind and loving father and his interest was always centered in his home and family.
He is survived by his four daughters: Mabel Langdon of Pipestone, Minn.; Beryl Arthaud of Huron, S. Dak.; Gladys Triplett of Bruno, Minn.; and Erma Olhausen of Sutherland; five grandchildren; three sisters: Hattie Wolfe of Hampton, Iowa; Florence Clark of Seattle, Wash.; and Clara Younger of Sioux City; and three brothers: Oscar and Lincoln of Sutherland and Wiliam of Byron, Ill.
LAST RITES FOR MORACE ADAMS
Funeral Service Held In Church of Christ Last Thursday
Funeral services for Morace Adams, who died at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Olhausen, Monday, July 12th, were held in the Church of Christ last Thursday afternoon with the pastor, Rev. F. L. Van Voorhis, officiating. Miss Doris Fredenburg and Herman Behmer sang, accompanied at the piano by Miss Eleanor Briggs. Interment was in Waterman cemetery.
Mr. Adams' death came as the effect of a heart attack, but he had suffered similarly on last New Year's Day and since then had been bedfast most of the time.
Morace Adams was a quiet and unassuming man, widely known in this community through the many friendships he had made since coming here 45 years ago. Much of that time, 35 years, was spent in the employ of lumber yards, his last connection being with the F. M. Slagle Lumber Co., where he was employed until the beginning of his last illness.
