Ella Lee Ackerly was born to William A. and Nancy T. Ackerly while her father was a member of the 27th Va. Infantry during the Civil War. She was the 3rd of four daughters. On Dec. 22, 1880 she married Joseph Edward Coleman in Bristol, Sullivan Co., Tn. About 1883 they moved to Kent Island, Maryland. Ella had seven children with Joseph Coleman before his death in 1898. In 1900 she married Capt. Samuel Henry of Baltimore. She and her children then went to live in the Waverly section of Baltimore. She and Captain Sam had a son together, Samuel Henry, Jr. in 1906. She was made a widow again by Capt. Sam's death in 1912. She continued to own a part of Henry Bros. fruit importers of Baltimore until her death. Ella passed away in 1921 at her home on Wyanoke Ave. of a staph infection.
