Hollis Leon Adkison Sr., 88, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be greatly missed, and a retired attorney with Gulf Insurance Co., passed away Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, in Lowell, Mass.
Mr. Adkison was born in Center on June 13, 1918, to G.W. and Mary Crocker Adkison. He attended the University of Texas. He received a degree in law and was a member of Delta Theta Phi Fraternity. He also served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-1946, where he piloted the Curtiss C-46 Commando, flying the "Hump" from India to China as a first lieutenant during World War II. Mr. Adkison then went to work for Gulf Insurance Co., where he served as an attorney in the surety claims department for over 40 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Birdville Baptist Church, where he served as a Sunday school director for 43 years and was named Deacon of the Year in 1996.
Mr. Adkison was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Florence Adkison.
