March 21, 1935 - October 28, 2010

JOPLIN, MO Betty Lou Allen, 75, passed away at 10:47 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at St. John's Regional Medical Center.

She was born to the Twalls family in Rolla, Mo., on March 21, 1935. In 1946, she was adopted by John and Zella Webber, of Joplin.

Betty attended East Moreland School, then Joplin High School until the family moved to Duenweg, where she graduated.

After graduation, she went to work in real estate. Later, she was employed at Newman's Department store, where she met her future mother-in-law, Ada Allen.

Shortly thereafter she was introduced to Ada's son, Donald and they began dating. They were married later that year.

Their daughter, Marilyn Sue Allen, was born in 1955, and their son, Donald Richard Allen, was born in 1959.

She was employed as a secretary at Forest Park from the late 1960s to the early 1970s. She worked at several nursing homes throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, then went on to work at Tyson's for five years, retiring in 1986.

In July of that year her first grandson, John Allen, was born to Marilyn. In 1990, her granddaughter, Lisa Allen, was born to Donald Allen and his wife to already nine years, Carolyn Russell.

The same year, 1991, Betty's husband Donald Allen Sr. passed away and her third grandson, Shane Allen, was born.

Betty and Donald had been married for 40 years.

Later in life, Betty received two beautiful great-grandchildren, Holly Nicole, now 5, the daughter to John Allen and Ty Allen, who is almost 3, the daughter to Lisa Allen.

Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew her. "We love you, Grandma."

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

Graveside services at Osborne Memorial Park will be at 2 p.m. Friday.

Rev. Larry Sparks officiating. John Allen, Shane Allen, Dan Webber, Steve Webber, Larry Wade and Donald Hamilton will serve as pallbearers.

Services are under the care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
