"Mr. Joseph Adger of Bossier Parish died at his home on the 1st instant."

Source: South-Western Presbyterian, New Orleans, La., Vol. XIII, No, June 16, 1881

"Joseph Ellison Adger, son of William and Isabella Adger, was born in Columbia, S.C. on the 21st September 1823, and departed this life at his home, near Rocky Mount Mount, Bossier Parish, La. on the 1st February 1881. His father died when he was quite young, leaving him and another brother to the care and guidance of a pious mother, who afterwards married Rev. Mr. Boggs, both of whom became foreign missionaries, leaving their son, Joseph, as an adopted son of Mrs. Joseph Ellison who reared him to manhood giving him all the advantages of the refined and religious society of Columbia. In early manhood he married Miss Eliza G. McMahon, who, with three sons and one daughter, survives him. Within the last two years they followed to the grave, first a grown son, Johnnie, then, later Agnes, a lovely pious young lady....One or two younger children had early been called away.... Descended from a long line of honorable ancestry, he is the last of the Fairfield Adgers; of the old family, all have passed away."
