Elias Alonzo "Lon" Bass,the son of Thomas and Sarah (Gibson)Bass, was born in Washington County, MO. He came to Crawford County when he was 6 years old and was educated there. When he was young he learned to shoe horses and oxen which he did for several years. He clerked in his father's store a short time and in 1879 he became a member of the firm of Brickey & Bass. In 1875 he married Telitha "Letha" Brickey. Children were Dora, Mayme, Harry C.,Leslie, Aggie, Joseph. He operated the firm of Scott, Bass & Co., in Steelville, MO. He was a member of the Baptist Church and politically was a Democrat.
