Velma Marie Baker

ELKINS -- Velma Marie Baker, 89, of Elkins died March 19, 2009, at her home. She was born June 29, 1919, at Temple Hill, the daughter of Jess and Eva Evans Osburn.

She was a member of Full Gospel Church. She was a homemaker and loved gardening and flowers. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Loyd Clayton Baker, on Jan. 27, 2009; her parents, Jess and Eva Osburn, a brother, Edgar Osburn, a sister, Wilma Baker, a son-in-law, Russell Hughes and a great-grandson, Matthew Dean Parker.

She is survived by a son, Billy Baker and his wife Kathy of Fayetteville; two daughters, Dorothy Parker and her husband Carl W. of Elkins, Pat Hughes of Elkins; four brothers, Walter (Dimmie) and Loyd (Sonny) Osburn of the Brannon Mountain community, James Osburn of Elkins, Carl Osburn of Kinsley, Kan.; four sisters, Bernice Isley of Elkins, Rema (Tootsie) Moore, Rose Mary (Peggy) and Willa, Dean (Dokey) Drummond, all of the Mount Olive community; two grandsons, Dean Parker and his wife Marsha of Elkins, Randall Hughes and his wife Rebecca of Elkins; one great-granddaughter, Chelsea Bowen and her husband Josh of Wesley; three great-grandsons, Chris and Zack Parker and Luke Hughes, all of Elkins; two great-great-grandchildren, Gavin and Alyssa Bowen of Wesley.


Graveside service will be at 5 p.m. March 21, at Brannon Mountain Cemetery, under the direction of Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Ray Shackelford officiating.
