A two-vehicle accident on Highway 22 claimed the life of a 16-year-old McKenzie High School student Thursday afternoon, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Taylor L. Buckley, 16, died as a result of the 4:54 p.m. accident, according to Trooper Shane Steele. She was a junior at McKenzie High School, where she was co-captain of the cheerleaders.
A 2002 Mercury Sable was on Connie Allen Road, attempting to turn left onto state Highway 22 northbound and Miss Buckley's 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer was southbound on state Highway 22. The Forester vehicle pulled in front of the Buckley vehicle and Ms. Buckley swerved in an attempt to avoid the Forester vehicle, but did make contact, the trooper said. The Buckley vehicle went into a Yaw and overturned several times, leaving the right side of the roadway. The vehicle came to final rest on its wheels right side up.
The teen was ejected from the vehicle, close to the roadway. The Mercury Sable came to final rest in the median. She was not injured.
McKenzie Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, after the Buckley vehicle caught fire. McKenzie Police Department and Carroll County Sheriff's Department also assisted at the scene.
Taylor's mother is Shawna Fowler of McKenzie, who is employed at McKenzie Banking Company. She leaves three sisters, Courtney Fowler, Kelly Fowler Simmons and Laura Beth Milam.
Visitation is Saturday, October 15, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McKenzie Church of Christ with memorial services Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the church.
