Dixie was the first child born to Myrtie(nee Brewer) and James R. Crawford, Sr. Her Father named her Dixie, since he loved the south so much. Dixie had long, thick, beautiful, honey-golden blonde hair. She had bad asthma attacks and the Dr. advised she cut her long hair. He said it sapped her strength when she had asthma attacks. Her Mother kept a big jar of Dixie's hair. When Dixie would have a really bad asthma attack, her parents would take her to the cellar where the air was damp so she could breath better. Dixie married James Edwin Clayton. She was only married a short time, as she died the same year. She had no children. Dixie was survived by her husband, her parents, three sisters; Maxine, Nell and Kathleen Crawford and four brothers; George K. Crawford, James R. Jr. Crawford, Allen and Charles Crawford, all of Ashland, Kentucky. Dixie is buried in her husband's family "Clayton" plot 12 1/2 feet from her brother, James R. Crawford Jr. His nickname was "Buster" or "Buss". Dixie's family didn't want her to be buried there all alone, as they knew her young husband would eventually remarry and may not be buried beside her. This was the reason, their sister, Kathleen, took brother, James "Buss's" body by train from Ashland, Kentucky to Richmond, Virginia to be buried beside Dixie. Dixie's husband is not buried in this plot.
