Obituary
Martha Elizabeth Clancy was born in Putnam county, Missouri, Dec. 2., 1842, and passed away Jan. 3, 1934, in the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. R. Hicks, at the age of 91 years and 1 days. She was united in marriage to William Bishop in 1863. To this union 9 children were born, 6 of whom are living: Mrs. Minnie Hicks, Lewis of Sioux City, Iowa, Kenneth of Leola S. D., Hugh of Udell, Emmett of Valley Junction, Iowa, and Murdy of Centerville.
The husband and three daughters preceded her in death. They are Mrs. Hettie McCoy, Martha and Eunice Bishop. One sister, Mrs. Jennie Coulson, 22 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren also survive.
"Aunt Lizzie" as she was lovingly called, came to Appanoose county with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Clancy, in 1843. They located on the old Clancy homestead. She has spent he entire life in this community. She united with the Baptist church in 1856 at the age of 14 years an remained a faithful member during her lifetime.
Her declining years have been spent in the home of her only daughter where she received all the care and devotion of a loving daughter. Her passing away was due to infirmaries of age rather than any special bodily affliction.
The funeral was held from the home the daughter, Friday, Jan. 5, at 2 p m. conducted by Rev. Frank Smith pastor of the Miller Baptist church. Interment was made in Eaton cemetery.
The sons and their families were all present but Lewis who was prevented by serious illness in the home. Other out-of-town relatives and friends present were Vern Davis, Brighton, Colo, Mr. and Mrs. Ulin Davis, Chariton, Mrs. Coulson, daughters Maud and Minnie, Mr. and Mrs. Edd Creech, Mrs. Paul Caylor, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nunney and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Selix of Centerville, Mr and Mrs. Curg McCoy, Mr. and Mrs, Albert Tubaugh, Blakesburg, Mr. and Mrs. Lute Hiatt, Mrs. Frank Swaim, Mrs. Florence Wilson, Mr. and Mrs D. E. Bishop, Mr. and Mrs. Job Tucker of Moravia.
