| Birth: | Aug. 2, 1915 Hammond Piatt County Illinois, USA | | Death: | Jan. 3, 2005 Decatur Macon County Illinois, USA | My Uncle Wendell, affectionately known as "Weenie" was a kind soul who worked in his own homebuilding business for most of his adult life after WWII. He served in the European Theatre and returned unharmed. One memory he shared from the war was while driving a truck somewhere in France, his convoy passed another US convoy going in the opposite direction. When he looked up, he saw his brother Bill driving another truck. They smiled & waved at each other and both returned back to the States safely after the war was over. Wendell went into business with his Brother, Verlyn (Uncle Burb) building houses in and around the Hammond, IL area. He married his wife Harriet in 1950. They had two daughters, Harriet & Audrey, and another child that died a few months after being born. In his later years he could be seen walking the highways & byways collecting aluminum cans for recycling. He was an Elder at the Hammond Church of Christ, faithful member, husband & father. His nephew, Paul Osborne (former Mayor of Decatur, IL) led the memorial and graveside services. He was buried with military honors not far from his Hometown of Hammond.
