On one page of the burial book from 1888 there were seven infants listed all under 3 months of age and seven still born babies. Infant mortality was a large factor among deaths in the late 1800's and early 1900's. For example, during the first three months of the cemeteries operation, 24.5% of those buried were infants. In 1888 the proportion of infants was 28%.
For the past several years the members of Mount Olive Lutheran Church Boy Scout Troop #79 have carried on an annual spring & summer project to maintian the county cemetery. Several years ago the Boy Scout Troop erected a flagpole on the site; and annually at 10am on Memeorial Day they have a flag raising ceremony and other Memorial Day observances at the cemetery. They are a dedicated group, spending a large protion of their free time in this assignment; and much credit is due them, as well as to their Scoutmaster, Maurice J Worrall Jr and his asscocites, Joseph Mulligan & Elmer Jespersen for their effort in preserving the cemetery as part of the historical past of Douglas County.
