In Loving Memory of Edna "May" (Vaughn) Gifford
1899 - Forever in Our Hearts - 1992
I was nine years old when my great-grandmother passed away. I didn't get to see her very often but when I did, it was truly a blessing. She left a lasting impression in my heart and lots of love in my soul.
Grandma was the sweetest person I've ever known. Even though I was young, I remember being fully aware that I was in the presence of an angel when I was with her. She had a heart of gold and wasn't afraid to show it, use it, or share it. She saw the good in everyone and everything. Never once did I hear her utter a negative comment about anyone or complain about the cards she had been dealt in life. She was deeply thankful for what she had.
Grandma was the best role-model a girl could ever dream of having. She was everything I wanted to be; kind, caring, compassionate, loving, and a darn fine cook! She lived a good life and raised wonderful children. I remember getting down on my knees and praying that I could be just like her some day.
She had lots of friends and touched the lives of so many others. Grandma was one of those special people who only come along once in a lifetime.
She died peacefully in her sleep at the ripe old age of 92. It didn't surprise me that she went quietly. She was always careful with our feelings and would never have wanted us to see her suffer, as it would have caused us pain. That was Grandma, thinking of others right to the very end.
The sunshine in our hearts, the rainbow in our sky, and the love of our lives...that's who she was and always will be.
TRIBUTE TO MAY GIFFORD, FROM AN OLD FRIEND
By: Ben Newell
Dear little Edna May Gifford, a long time friend of mine
I have known her since my boyhood days, and we got along just fine
I knew her mother and father, her brothers and sisters too
And they were a lovely family, and one that I'm glad I knew
She was always a lady, no matter where she went
And looking out for other folks, was the way her life was spent
She came to know the Lord, many long years ago
And I was there when it happened, and that is the reason I know
I have not been around her for many years, since we moved away
But when I think of the good old days, I always think of May
And I expect to see her again, over on the other side
When this life is over, and I cross the rolling tide
And I will meet her and greet her, as a loved and long time friend
Who was always kind to every one, right to the very end
I have never heard anyone speak of her, as anything but good
Who acted like a lady, as a Christian mother should
And though we are going to miss her, in this old world below
It's a comfort and a blessing, to all of us to know
There's a place prepared in Heaven, with no sickness death or pain
Where we'll meet and greet May Gifford, never to part again
And if you do not know Jesus, why not prepare today
And be ready to meet with the Savior, along with our old friend May
I have written this little tribute, in deep respect and love
And I'll be looking forward to seeing her, in that Heavenly home above.
A very special thank you to With All My Love for sponsoring this memorial. I am truly touched by your kindness and so very honored to have you as a sponsor and friend. From the bottom of my heart, thanks!
