Mildred Ethel Cameron Brown
Birth: Aug. 22, 1922
Ottawa County
Oklahoma, USA
Death: Dec. 22, 1993
Gem County
Idaho, USA

Grandma was born the 22nd of August, 1922 in Hockerville, Ottawa, Oklahoma. She was the third of five children born to Charles Bert Cameron and Ruby Bell Chase. She had a brother, Orval, and three sisters; Lorraine, Ina, and Dorothy.

The family departed Oklahoma the day after she was born and headed out west to Idaho--I guess that makes her more of a Spud than an Okie!

She was first married to a man named Cramer. I know little about him or the circumstances surrounding their marriage. After their divorce, she met and married my grandpa, William George Brown, around 1945 in Elko, Nevada. He was truly the love of her life. They had eight children together: Elden, Irene, Karen, Lorna, Marla, Sharon, Bill, and my dad Eugene. They were happily married until his death, following complications of a stroke, in 1983. Her third and final marriage was to Tilden Perrigo of Emmett, Idaho.

Grandma was a Type 1 diabetic for many years. Her struggle was great but she fought it well, always a picture of grace and strength, right to the very end.

She died December 22nd, 1993 in the Emmett Hospital, where she had been admitted a few days prior.

We buried her on Christmas Eve. She rests in a pretty little country cemetery on a hill overlooking the Emmett Valley.

I am ashamed to admit how little I know about my grandma. I rarely got to see her and when I did, the last thing on my mind was asking her about herself or her family history. All I knew was that she was super sweet, incredibly kind, and someone that made you feel totally special and cared about when you were around her. She kept it simple but significant.

Some of my fondest memories of her involve going to her house on Halloween. I remember so clearly...I would be all dressed up in my costume, she'd open the door, I'd say "trick or treat," and she would just smile the sweetest of smiles and dote on me like there was no tomorrow. I always looked forward to that holiday because of her.
