Amelia Laura Rose Guerard was the daughter of Arthur Gordon Rose, president of the Bank of Charleston, and his first wife Elizabeth Wigg Barnwell. She was the great granddaughter of Hugh Rose, 15th Baron Kilravock in Scotland. She was the sister of Arthur Barnwell Rose, M.D. and she married Octavius Jacob Guerard in Charleston, SC, on Nov. 28 in 1849. Widowed young in 1852, she never remarried. She was the mother of Arthur Rose Guerard and a lifelong resident of Charleston who traveled with her family extensively in Europe after the Civil War as her son attended St. Andrew's University in Scotland and the Royal College of Mines in London. There are two letters from her to her sister-in-law, Emma Eliza Guerard, in the Emma E. Guerard collection at the South Carolina Historical Society in Charleston. Amelia owned two homes and several lots on Rutledge Ave. in Charleston for many years and passed away at her home at 8 Rutledge Avenue.
