THURSDAY, April 7, 1910. p. 4.

Alonzo C. Abbey was born in Villenova, N.Y., May 18; died of pneumonia, in Northwood, Iowa, April 5, 1910.

When Alonzo was a child of five years, the family moved to Sheardon, N. Y., where he grew to manhood. He came west with his parents in 1862 and settled in Northwood, Iowa. On Oct. 1, 1864, he enlisted in Co. B, Seventh Iowa Infantry, and served his country against the hostile Indians on the western plains. He was honorably discharged Oct. 22, '65, and after a year in Nebraska, returned to Northwood, later going to Hokah, Minn., where he remained five years, returning in 1872 to Northwood, which remained his home or his home town till the date of his death. At Hokah, on Nov. 18, 1863, Mr. Abbey was married to Miss Ann Breneman, who was his faithful helpmate for upwards of 40 years. Four children were born to them, of whom one died in infancy. The survivors are Mrs. Walter Thomson and Mr. Chauncy Abbey, of Northwood, and Mrs. Edna Sturdevant, of Norma, N. Dak. On July 1, 1907, Mr. A. was striked with paralysis of one side, For over two years he made a brave effort to keep up and around, and was often seen upon the streets, a pathetic figure. For some months before the end he suffered so much that death must have been a blessed relief. His funeral services will be solemnized in the M. E. Church at 2 o'clock this p.m.

Their suggestion:

The obituary for Alonzo is in error. Civil War Military records show he was in Co B Seventh Iowa Cavalry (not infantry).
