.Ronnie was born in Belfast on 29 March 1943, and played 11 times for the Manchester United between January 1961 and April 1962. He earned two Northern Ireland caps during his career.

The 6ft 2in goalkeeper was first spotted playing amateur football by a United scout at the age of 15 before signing professional forms on his 17th birthday. He made his debut 10 months later but found it difficult to cement a regular first-team place.

Briggs left United for Swansea City in May 1964 before going on to play for Bristol Rovers and non-league Frome Town. A hand injury, sustained in a collision with a team-mate, forced him to retire from the professional game.

After football, Briggs worked in insurance, construction and security before retiring in March 2008.

Briggs lived in Stapleton and was diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer in December 2007. Sadly, he passed away at St. Peter's Hospice on 28 August 2008.

Eddie is survived by wife Edna and children Julie, Stephen and Jane. He had seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.

RIP.
