Birth: 1740
Death: unknown

Edward came from Ireland to Virginia about 1740 on the 'Pearl' mastered by Walter Buchanan. He was an honest, hard-working man, a member of the Baptist Church, and a Revolutionary War veteran. After the war, he bought a large farm in Orangeburg Co., SC, near Tampa Mill in Neeses (close to the intersection of state roads 71 and 874). He was buried near there, but his grave was moved to Rocky Swamp on 1 March 1982. His gravestone was furnished by the government. It reads, 'Edward D. Bolin, Virginia Militia Rev. War.' [See Rev. War Records, Book of Virginia, p. 226]. There are numerous warrants to Edward Bolin for land in the forks of the Edisto River and Goodland Swamp, dated from 1792 through 1818. The names Bolen, Bolin, Bolan, and Bollin all mean a dweller near the Bolin River, located in Cheshire Co. in NW England.

This grave is the closest one to Hwy.4.Thankfully it hasn't been destroyed by road work or other intrusions.
