ECKHART Colleen Gloria Lance Gordon, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.
Born Dec. 10, 1926, in Midland, she was the daughter of the late Thelma Lance Harclerode, and was raised by her grandparents, the late John and Frances Savage. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James H. Gordon, a stepson, Edward Gordon, and a son, Randy Gordon.
She is survived by her children, a son, James Gordon and girlfriend Bobbie, of Frostburg, and daughters Sandra Gordon, of Eckhart, and Frances Footen and husband Dan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Nicole Gordon, with whom Colleen loved to share her candy and watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, Amy and Brian Boore, Sara Delaney, Kristine Taylor, and Eric Footen; multiple great-grandchildren; her sister, Frances Reid, of Midland; a half-sister; three half-brothers; and special friends Matt and Mary Boore, who were regular visitors of hers and routinely joined her in activities at the nursing home.
Colleen worked at the Berkowitz Shirt Factory until her marriage, and afterwards as a homemaker. She was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church. Colleen was a voracious reader, devouring every book, magazine or newspaper she could. She always saved a puzzle for Jimmy or Nikki, or kept articles she thought were of interest for her grandchildren, friends, and family. She was so proud of her family and loved to have visitors. She liked being the center of attention, and enjoyed meeting and talking to anyone and everyone. She was truly a good Christian, and epitomized what Christianity should represent in that she did not judge others regardless of their religious beliefs, always saw a person's good points, and loved unconditionally. She will be greatly missed.
Colleen's family appreciate the love and care she received at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home. They were not only her caregivers, but her friends.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Karen A. Tamorria officiating.
Interment will be in Frostburg Memorial Park.
