Donato came to the United States through Ellis Island (his name is listed on the brick wall) from Civitella Alfedena, Italy after WWI. His parents were Luigi and Loreta (Mazzola) Ricci of Civitella, Italy. He married Ascienzia Rossi at St. Nicholas Church in Civitella, Italy on October 11, 1920. He came to Warren, Ohio and worked at Republic Steel and his wife joined him later. He taught himself to read and write English. He and Ascienzia had 7 children: Louis (Lou), Mario (Mugs), Orlando (Opps), Loretta, Anthony(Tony), Herbert (Herbie), Mary, and two miscarriages. Ascienzia died of heart failure in 1956 and he remarried in 1958. His second wife was Ascienzia's younger step-sister, Anna Victoria, and they had two children, Annamarie and Dina. He died of heart failure at the age of 91.
