Being the minutes of the annual conferences of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, for the Year 1936, and the
Southern Methodist Yearbook for 1937.
New Harris was born in Greenville, Ky., on December 12, 1861, and died on December 29,1935, at the Methodist Hospital, Dallas, Tx. Of the four children born to Col. Nathaniel and Mrs. Sara New Harris, only Mrs. Bryan Harris Young survives. Brother Harris studied law and moved to Paducah, Ky., to practice his chosen profession. Frail health induced him to seek the climate of Texas, and his itinerant ministry began in the West Texas Conference. While serving his first charge, Uvalde Station, he was married to Miss Dona Hiler, who survives him. He is also survived by the following named children: Mrs. Fred Boothe, Mrs. Harold Greengrass, Mrs. Marvin Weeks, Mrs. Allen Reynolds, Madden C., and Buckner New Harris. In the West Texas Conference Dr. Harris served the following pastorates: Uvalde Station, Gonzales (twice), Travis Park (San Antonio), First Church (San Marcos), First Church (San Angelo), University Church (Austin). In three other Conferences in Texas he served Polk Street (Amarillo), Marvin (Tyler), Trinity (Dallas). In Oklahoma he served St. Paul's (Muskogee), First Church (Okmulgee), McFarlin Memorial (Norman), Tulsa District, Shawnee District. He was a Thirty-Second Degree Mason, a Knight Templar, and a Shriner. He was also a member of the Founder's Club of Southern Methodist University. Funeral services were held on December 30, 1935, in St. Paul's Church, Muskogee, Okla., by the writer, assisted by L.S. Barton, J.H. Ball, C.A. German
