VETERAN KILLED IN BATTLE AT ALATOONA PASS 5 OCT 1864
-Illinois State Archives

Originally buried at Cartersville, Ga., next to Benjamin Keiser, Co B 93rd Illinois. Identified with initials, L.A., the name Levi Allen, 7th Illinois, written in.

In "Allatoona Pass", by William R. Scaife, Levi Allen is noted as mortally wounded. That may explain why he was originally buried at Cartersville instead of Allatoona. He was possibly transported North to Cartersville to a hospital or on his way to Rome when he died. Benjamin Keiser died Oct. 9, so Levi Allen probably died after Oct. 5.
