His widow, Sarah E. Moore Akins, applied for a Widow's pension. She later married Josiah Green. She died July 4, 1919, according to a letter to the pension board from her daughter, Carrie Beans. Children mentioned in file include: Caroline b. 1851, Mary b. 1852, Charles b. 1858, and Lucy b. 1862.
