Her husband, George Barnes, died Sept. 12, 1984.
Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Helen Barnes of Terre Haute; three granddaughters, Tina Sims of Indianapolis, Margie Balderson of Terre Haute and Lisa Guess of Round Lake Beach, Ill.; one grandson, James M. Barnes of Indianapolis; and three great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; and one son, James A. Barnes in 1985.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, attended Indiana State University, was the Republican vice-chairwoman for several years, was precinct committeewoman of the Republican party for more than 50 years, was honored as Republican Woman of the Year from Vigo County in 1983 and served as delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1960.
