Possibly the final resting place of James R. Croke, born about 1827 in Ireland, who is referenced several times in old Bandera County records. He appears on the 1860 Federal Census for Bandera County along with wife Anne, a daughter named Anne, and an unnamed infant daughter. He is also mentioned in the "Texas, Muster Roll Index Cards, 1838-1900" as being a 5th sergeant in Ranger Company G under Captain Charles de Montel, having enlisted in February 1862. In 1867 his residence is shown as being in Kerr County, according to Texas Voter Registration Lists, 1867-1869. No further records of him can be found as of this writing.
Hopefully, further research will reveal exactly who is buried beneath this broken stone.
