ASA A. "ACE" ADAIR, born August 28, 1920 in Rich Creek, Virginia. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in August 1941, after finishing two years of college in North Carolina at Lees McRae Jr. College. He received his wings April 29, 1942 and was assigned to the 65th Squad of the 57th Group in Connecticut.
The 57th Group departed and he stayed with his classmates to form the 79th Group and he was assigned to the 87th Squad. The 79th Group went to Eqypt in November of 1942. He stayed with the 79th until Trani, Italy. He returned to the States in November of 1943 and then went back to combat in February of 1944 with the 50th Group and the 10th Squad in England.
He returned to the States in August of 1944 after participating in the invasion "D" Day. He flew P-63's, P-51's, F-80's, T-33's, F-84's, T-38's, P-47's in numerous assignments during the following twenty years in in, Japan, U.S.A. and Europe before retiring after twenty-six years of Active Duty.
He married Jane Elizabeth Woodward while stationed at Willy Air Patch and had 19 one son, Robert W. Adair II, who graduated from Texas A&M and was in the Corps. He has recently retired again after eleven,years of operating his dealership, "Adair Chrysler Plymouth," in Seguin, Texas. The Dealership sold July 1979.
