John Ford sells 126 acres for $1,159 and 52.5 acres for $525 in two separate transactions in Henry County, Tennessee in 1859. This land is next to Lebanon Campground and the headwaters of Clear Creek. His brother B.A. Ford is a witness to both sales. John Allen Ford's daughter Elizabeth married James R. Brannon in Henry County in October 1859.

By January or February 1860 John Ford and family are in Sebastian County (Ft. Smith), Arkansas (his son Louis was born in Arkansas). James R. and Elizabeth Brannon are in the household in the July 1860 Arkansas census. John Ford's brothers Ephraim and James R. also move to Arkansas. Other families from Henry County, the Deeds and Nixon's also moved to Arkansas. We do not know for sure why they all left Tennessee?

Ford, John D. Ford, James R. Ford (John A.'s brother) and James Brannon all join the Union Army in Ft. Smith in 1863/64. John A. Ford eventually deserted from the US Army. John Ford's son, James, served in the Confederate Army from 1862 to 1865.

Elizabeth's mother married her father John Allen Ford on 19 Nov 1839 Calloway, KY. He was killed during the Civil War about 1865.They were living in Missouri at the time of her husband's death, after which she returned to Graves, KY to live near her parents.
