It is an honour for me to present this short biography for a person I considered "my friend". I first met Kevin when he interviewed me for a job vacancy at the Regent Hotel in Auckland. He, at that time, was the Security Manager for the hotel and I was applying for a security position which had recently become available. I got the position. Throughtout the years working for the Regent Kevin supported me in every way possible. He was undoubtidly the best 'boss' I have ever had. He was a man with a huge heart and would give you the shirt off his back if he had to. The secuity dept would often go out on 'team building' exercises which always included a pub. Man he knew how to socialise!! He managed people the way he himself would like to be managed, in a caring thoughtful way. To say he was 'respected' is an understatement. He was loved by one and all. When the Regent was sold and a lot of us were made redundant Kevin went into business with his brother buying a 'Mad Butcher" franchise. He did very well with this business until he felt it was time for a change. He sold his portion of the business to his brother and bought a kitchen / cabinate business (he was a cabinate maker by trade). This business also did very well. He started going to casinos where he lost the lot and ended up going under owing money. He came back to Auckland where he obviously became depressed and took his life on the 28th July 2005. To you Kev I owe you a lot. It was you who showed me how to manage people and I have never deviated from that. I believe you said to me once "the secret to managing is 'consultation and consideraton". I now live by those two words.Be at peace mate, and God bless. I EXPECT a rum and coke when we next meet, OK?Never forgotten........Derrick
