Obituary for Deana Marie Chojnicki
Deana Marie "Dena" Chojnicki, 40, of Plainville, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on September 29, 2009.
Dena bravely fought her five year battle with breast cancer with an admirable strength and optimism, with her devoted boyfriend, Allen, by her side, who cared for her every step of the way.
She was born in New Britain on August 28, 1969, the daughter of Ann Marie (Petrucelli) Mixon of Lakeland, FL., and the late Steven Chojnicki.
She attended local schools, and lived in Middletown and Cromwell, before moving to Plainville.
An esthetician for over 20 years, she especially enjoyed working with people, and quickly made friends wherever she went. She had a special fondness for the trees and fall foliage, and was always active and full of energy, playing hockey with her league at the Plainville Sports Arena, shooting pool, or dancing. The social butterfly of her family, she always hosted the holidays where she could cook and spend time with those she loved. Dena's greatest joy was being a mother. She had a love for children, and a playful personality that drew them to her. Always giving to others, she led a selfless life with a vibrant smile that would light up the room, and enjoyed each day to its fullest. Her strong will, determination, and many acts of kindness will forever remain an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Ann Marie and Jerry Mixon of FL; her pride and joy, her daughter, Taylor Stergos and her siblings, Justin and Hanna Stergos of Cromwell; her loving boyfriend and best friend, Allen Paradis of Plainville and his children, Nicholas and Alexa Paradis of Farmington, whom Dena treated as her own; her brothers, Jeremy Mixon of FL, Ryan Mixon and Steven Chojnicki, both of New Britain. She was the loving aunt of Alyssa, Steven, Jordan, Matthew, Cerenia, Gavonni, Geno, and Nino, sharing a special bond with all of her nieces and nephews. In addition, she leaves her maternal; grandmother, Anna Petrucelli and her aunt and best friend, Linda Petrucelli.
A celebration of Dena's life will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad St. Plainville. Committal services will follow at Fairview Cemetery, New Britain. Family and friends may gather on Friday evening, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
