| Birth: | Dec. 17, 1962 | | Death: | Aug. 29, 2007 | Main figure in the 1996 Olympic Park bombing at the Atlanta Summer Olympic games. He was at first lauded as a hero for noticing the bomb, notifying police and then assisting in an evacuation until the bomb went off. Days later the FBI targeted him, incorrectly, as a suspect. He was later cleared of all wrong doing and was never charged. Jewell later became a law enforcement official in Georgia, and sued several media outlets for libel regarding the Olympic Park bombing case. On the 10th anniversary of the attack, he was heralded as a hero once again by Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue. (bio by: John Sheets)
