If this has taught me anything it's the mere fact that 15 1/2 years can fly by far too quickly.
Give your furry counterparts an extra hug tonight. Hold on tightly and never, for an instant, take them or their unconditional love, for granted. At the time of his passing I lived in a room barely over 300 square feet. It was crammed with furniture and boxes. Just a path to get through, really. Until now I never knew a room filled with items could feel so empty.
We were together for almost 16 years. It's hardest at night or whenever I return home from somewhere. VanGogh was always right by the door waiting for me when I would walk inside. When my mother would visit she always knew when I was almost home from work because he would run to the door and just sit there and wait. Within a few minutes I'd appear almost on cue. She was always amazed at how he seemed to know when I would arrive. At night he would curl up in the crook of my right arm, rest his head on my shoulder and just purr to beat the band. Now it's just too quiet in here.
I never knew how I could treasure something as simple as a cat bowl. A red plastic bowl with his name emblazoned on it. I got it when he was a kitten by sending in a pile of UPC symbols from Purina Cat Chow and a couple bucks shipping. Right now, it's one of the most treasured items I own.
*** From the bottom of my heart, I thank each and every one who has been kind enough to leave messages on VGr's memorial. It means so very much to me. ***
