Dr. Keith Andrew Austin of Bellingham, Washington, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, from natural causes related to heart failure. Born December 12, 1966, in Delano, California, he was the second of John and Faye Austin's three sons. Mr. and Mrs. Austin were both teachers and encouraged their sons to be life-long learners. At an early age, Keith developed an interest in singing and playing music. He also composed and performed his own music. His talent evolved from performances in high school bands on through college and into his later life at Christian youth camps and rallies. His church family was blessed weekly with his talent and dedication to music in worship service leadership.

Through Keith's involvement in music and youth ministries at New Hope Community Church in Portland, Oregon, he met his wife of fifteen years, Tara NaSmythe. They moved to Bellingham in 1994 shortly after Keith graduated from Western States Chiropractic College. Together they established the Austin Chiropractic Clinic in Bellingham. Patients of the practice soon discovered that Keith was not only an outstanding doctor but a caring and personable individual whom many of them came to regard as a true friend.

Throughout his life, Keith was an avid student who was enthusiastic about sharing what he learned. His extensive Biblical knowledge and charismatic personality made him a popular and effective speaker for church sermons as well as youth camps. His desire to understand the effects of nutrition on the body plunged him into extensive research. Most recently, Keith was motivated to train for a bike marathon.

Keith's energetic pursuit of knowledge, compassionate faith, wonderful sense of humor, and warm smile will be sorely missed by those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife Tara, his parents John and Faye Austin, his older brother Kevin, his younger brother Dennis, and his sister-in-law Melissa, along with a host of beloved friends, many of whom he considered family.

A Celebration of Life will be led by Pastor Joshua Wright at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 9th, at Northwest Baptist Church, 3545 Northwest Avenue, Bellingham 98225.

The family requests remembrances be made to: Community Baptist Church, 810 Samish Way, Bellingham, WA 98229.
