Obituary from Elmwood, Cass County, NE.
The funeral services for A. N. McCrory were held at the Church of Christ on Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m., conducted by Reverend Victor West of the Methodist Church who preached a powerful sermon of encouragement, paying high respect to the deceased, who had been a resident of Elmwood and Cass County for so many years. Mrs. Legu, Mrs. Keedy, Mrs. Ralph Creamer, and Mrs. Ida McFall sang several numbers. The floral offerings were many and beautiful and showed the high esteem in which the deceased was held by relatives and friends. Interrment was made in Elmwood Cemetery. Following is the outline of his life.
The brittle thread of life is severed and the spirit of our beloved citizen, A. N. McCrory, has been launched into eternity. He was a son of John W. and Margaret McCrory and was born February 21, 1851, at Goshen, Indiana, and departed this life at his home in Elmwood, Nebr., June 1, 1928.
He was united in marriage to Sarah A. Logan on the 17th day of April, 1878, and to this union were born seven surviving children: Iva C. McCrory, Mrs. Frank Buell, Murdock, Mrs. Oscar Allen, Omaha, Mrs. Ralph Dorr, Wabash, Mrs. Verner Perry, Big Springs, F. Marion McCrory, Elmwood, and William N. McCrory, Mound City, Missouri. In addition to these children who mourn for him are his wife, a sister, Caroline (Mrs. Willis) Logan of La Paz, Indiana, nineteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, other relatives, and a host of friends. Those who knew him best have a high appreciation of his worth. Surrounded by immediate members of his family, he passed on as he had lived, gently, quietly, and peacefully.
He lived for a few years at Plymouth, Indiana, but nearly all his married life has been spent in Nebraska, at or near Elmwood. The last three years have given indications of the earthly end of his life, and since last January, he has been bedfast most of the time. His Masonic brethren testify that he had an abiding faith in his Creator and a fervent belief in the great truth of the general resurrection. His method of living was such as to give proof of a well-grounded hoe and a certainty of a well-spent life. It may be said of him that he followed his Guide and feared no danger.
