Kidder Crandall was the son of Constance (1782 - 1868) and Emelia (Kidder) (1788 - 1868) Crandall, and was born in Champion, Jefferson County, New York.

He is a descendant and included in the Genealogy of Elder John Crandall of Rhode Island and his Descendants, by John Cortland Crandall (pub. New Woodstock, New York, 1949). As noted in this volume, he is also a descendant of Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower, but as later determined, he descends from both his paternal and maternal ancestries as follows:

Both paternal and maternal sides descend from William(1) Brewster, Jonathan(2), Benjamin(3), William Sr.(4), William Jr.(5), Hannah(6) Brewster (1787-1762) m. Constant Crandall (1722-1762). Two of their children were Hannah(7) Crandall and Abel(7) Crandall (1757-1826). As of early 2017, the Mayflower Society confirms the descent to Hannah(6) Brewster without confirming her marriage, although her marriage to Constant Crandall is documented in 3 sources including the Crandall volume (noted above), a volume of genealogy of descendants of Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower, and the Barbour Collection of Connecticut Town Vital Records, Volume 22(Lebanon, Vols 1-3).

His paternal side descends, Hanna(6) (Brewster) Crandall, Abel(7) Crandall (1757-1826) m. Elizabeth Crocker (1752-1833), Constant(8) Crandall (1782-1868) m. Emelia(9) Kidder, below, (1788-1868). Kidder Crandall(9)/(10).

His maternal ancestry descends from Hannah(6) (Brewster) Crandall, Hannah(7) Crandall (1745-1827) m. Solomon Calkins (1746-1840), Samantha(8) Calkins (1770-1840) m. John Kidder (1761-1833), Emelia(9) Kidder m. Constant(8) Crandall, Kidder(10)/(9).

In about 1833, Kidder Crandall married Polly M. Stevens and together they had 7 children, Adaline, Emelia, Clinton, Dudley, Rosaltha, Burton, and Polly Maria. Kidder and Polly M. (Stevens) Crandall migrated from Jefferson County, New York, to Lorain County, Ohio, in about 1848 and are noted there in the 1850 US Federal Census.

(1) Adaline A. Crandall (1834-1924)

They most likely met in LaGrange, Lorain County, Ohio, where the Sheldon family is also noted in the 1850 US Federal Census. David and Adaline moved to Michigan in the mid-1850's and they had two children Stella (m. JW Sickels of Elsie) and Frank Milford Sheldon who married (1) Sarah Elizabeth "Libby" Letts of Elsie, Clinton County, and after her death, he married (2) his first cousin Addie Johnson, and his aunt and mother-in-law became one in the same, Emelia Crandall.
