Lillian J. Barnack, 96, of Evansville, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, at the Grant County Health Center in Elbow Lake. She was born May 26, 1904, in Lund Township in Douglas County, the 10th child of Nils A. and Anna Christina (Erickson) Lang. She was baptized at Christina Lake Lutheran Church near Melby. On her birthday in 1918, she was confirmed in the same church. She attended Kron School District 58 in Lund Township. Before her marriage she was employed as laundress and pastry cook at Marion Hotel on Lake Marion, near Alexandria; as a housekeeper for Lawrence Leitch and the John Parson family and as a boarding house waitress. On Nov. 23, 1931, she married Cyril Barnack at Fergus Falls. Mr. Barnack had purchased land on Spitzer Lake near Clitherall and built a house there prior to their marriage. Later they built the barn and chicken house. Hunters leased the land for hunting for 10 years. The hunters then donated their cabin to the Barnacks which was the beginning of their resort. Through the years more cabins were built for the Barnack Camp which they operated for 17 years. Vacationers came from Chicago, Missouri and surrounding areas. In addition to the resort management, they were dairy farmers. Later the Church of the Lutheran Brethren purchased land from the Barnacks which became Inspiration Point Bible Camp. The Barnacks sold the resort to the Koeps in 1967, but continued to live at Spitzer Lake on the lot where they had built a new home. Mr. Barnack died Oct. 13, 1975, in their home on Spitzer Lake. In 1981, she sold her home on Spitzer Lake and purchased a home in Evansville. In 1996, she sold that home and moved into the Tower Apartments which was her residence at the time of her death. At the age of 21, she was struck by lightning which resulted in the loss of sight in one eye. She completely lost the sight in her other eye in 1994 and became blind. However, she was able to continue to reside in her apartment in Evansville. She was a life-long member of Christina Lake Lutheran Church near Melby, the LCW and church choir. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and baking. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and enjoyed sharing that gift. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; five sisters and four brothers and their spouses, Victoria (Peder) Evavold, Wilhelmina (Anton) Evavold, Carl (Barbara) Lang, Alma (Carl) Jacobson, Rudolph (Jennie) Lang, Ida (William)Nelson, Hans (Myrtle) Lang, Nels Edwin (Ethel) Lang and Emily (Oscar) Larson.
