He married Miss Jane Alma Scanks circa 1861, the eldest of ten children born to the marriage of Martin Scanks and Harriet Johnson, also free people of color.
Alma died in 1889 in Deposit, Broome Co, NY in the forty-fourth year of her life.
George followed Alma to the kingdom of God six years later, dying in 1895.
