"Camillus (Commander) O'Connell, of Haverstraw, N.Y., died on May 10, 2005 in Nyack Hospital.
Camillus was born in New York on March 7, 1923 to Camillus and Mary (Cleary) O'Connell.
He was an executive financial adviser for IBM in White Plains. Camillus married Mary Grace Keane on November 30, 1944 in Immaculate Conception Church, Ithaca, N.Y.
He had been a New City resident for 22 years, prior Montrose, N.Y. Camillus was a graduate of Cornell University Midshipman School and recieved a BA from Manhattan College in Engineering. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Westchester and a member of the Ecurie Racing Club of Rockland and Harpers Field Historical Society in Harpersfield, N.Y. Camillus was a Lt. Commander in the Seabees and a 15-year veteran of the US Navy and USN Reserves serving during WW II, Korea and Vietnam.
Camillus is survived by his wife Mary; sons Michael of New Windsor and Thomas and his wife Mary Ann of Ann Arbor, MI, Brian and his wife Nancy Fremont O'Connell of Astoria, N.Y.; daughters, Dr. Frank and Mary Meyers of Amherst, Ma and Theresa and Chris Reesbeck of Haverstraw. He is also survived by his brother Robert of Bloomingburg, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his stepmother Ann Burke O'Connell; his sister Eileen Drake; daughter Joanne; son Kevin and daughter-in-law, Linda; and son-in-law Andre D'Ambroso.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, W. Nyack, N.Y.
Cremation will be private.
Visiting at Higgins Funeral Home, New City on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Donations to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and United Hospice of Rockland.
