Obituary: (The West Australian Newspaper 11 Apr 1933)

Mr. Courtis, who was born at Abbotsford.
Victoria, came to Western. Australia in 1912.
After a short period on the eastern goldfields,
he settled at Fremantle, where he had resided
ever since. During the Great War he saw active
service in Gallipoli and in France, with the
28th and 51st Battalions. As a horse trainer
he had many successes, particularly with Jolliette, Coette and Godesia. Masonic interests also occupied, his attention and he was a member of Lodge Bonnie Doon. No. 839 S.C. Mr.
Courtis was of very bright disposition, charitably
disposed and won the respect of all with whom, he came into contact.
